Hyland and business partner Rick Hilton opened the luxury real estate company Hilton & Hyland in 1993. The company, credited with billions of dollars in residential real estate sales since its founding, has announced announced the “appalling” news about their co-founder and chairman on Thursday in an Instagram post.

The post quotes Hyland’s wife, painter Lori Hyland. “As some of you may already know, Jeff has been battling cancer for the past year,” she said. “I thank you all for sharing your wishes and prayers during Jeff’s illness. Your support and kindness has touched me deeply, and I know you are mourning me now.”

Hilton, grandson of Hilton hotel founder Conrad Hilton, husband of Kathy Hilton and father of Paris and Nicky Hilton, also released a statement. “Thirty years ago, Jeff and I embarked on this journey,” he wrote. “Throughout, great partnerships and deep friendships have been forged, and Hilton & Hyland has emerged as an industry force. Jeff is a legend. His knowledge of real estate and architecture is unmatched. ”

Hyland, who grew up in LA’s Little Holmby area, has been behind major property sales in the area over the past few decades. In 2019, he was one of the listing agents who sold $150 million in Chartwell real estate, also known as Beverly Hillbillies house for its appearance on the CBS show, for Lachlan Murdoch; at the time, it broke the record for the most expensive residential property ever sold in California.

Hyland was also one of the agents that sold Spelling Manor in 2011 to Petra Ecclestone for $85 million; The property was recently pitched in by current owners for $165 million, with the company’s Hyland and Drew Fenton acting as agents.

However, Hyland is not one to trumpet its massive sales in the media. One of his deep passions is to be the architectural historian of the city in which he grew up. He’s been enamored with the LA area’s historic multistory mansions all his life, publishing a book Beverly Hills properties in 1984 and Rizzoli’s follow-up book in 2008, 400 pages The legendary properties of Beverly Hillsfeatures 45 mansions built by architects such as Paul R. Indeed, his second book includes a memoir to many notable LA mansions that have been demolished, including Douglas Fairbanks Sr. and Mary Pickfair’s Pickfair and Rudolph Valentino’s Falcon Lair.

“Jeff is the real deal,” says real estate agent Compass and architecture historian Bret Parsons CHEAP. “He believes in very thorough research into these great homes that we are losing every day. He has a personal mission to preserve their history. He loves Los Angeles, and he loves good architects. Architects tell the history of a city”.

Son of Dick Hyland, a screenwriter (Kilroy was here) who later founded a literary company (where filmmaker Roger Corman originally worked), Hyland has a profound knowledge of the areas in which he will write later. “Between my parents, their friends, and my friends, I was in and out of many of these houses as a child,” Hyland once told. Art and Lifenotes that he “grew up three blocks from the Bing Crosby estate designed by Kaufmann,” which was demolished to become the Spell Manor.

Hyland, who attended American International University in San Diego, earned a degree in business administration, earned a degree in real estate in 1975 at the age of 20, started working for Coldwell Banker. His first client, according to a 2014 LA time profile, as producer Dino De Laurentiis, a recommendation he received through his father.

Owning Hyland’s own estate, according to Dirt, includes a 40-acre estate in Agoura Hills, an equestrian park in Topanga Canyon, a pied-à-terre in Manhattan and a house inspired by the Hollywood Regency in Trousdale’s Beverly Hills Real Estate.

Agents at Hilton & Hyland include Fenton, Attorney Brett, Jonah Wilson and Linda May, former million dollar list star Chad Rogers and Rick Hilton’s son, Barron N. Hilton.

“I don’t know a single person in the industry who is active and involved in politics, construction, zoning and safety. He really cares about the city,” says Rayni Williams, co-founder of real estate brokerage Beverly Hills Estates and a former Hilton & Hyland agent. Express delivery Beverly Hills. “Jeff Hyland has been a mentor to so many people and a father to so many more. It is a very sad and huge loss to our community. ”
