The cubic ‘hut’ on the moon is just a rock

An eerie cuboid-like object captured on the far side of the moon by China’s Yutu 2 lunar rover has been identified. It is just a rock.

Arousing the curiosity of the online community in December, a vague image of the object was first released by Our Space, a Chinese-language blog affiliated with China’s National Space Administration.

Our space calls it “mystery hut.” Yutu 2, which means “Jade Rabbit”, slowly navigates around the rugged craters to approach the subject. The nearly 60-meter journey took about a month.

“A lifelike rabbit appeared in view,” Our Space wrote in our Jan. 7 update. “The stones scattered in front of ‘Jewel Rabbit’ look like carrots, and the seeds are like a carrot, and the seeds are like a carrot. the round stone behind ‘Jade Rabbit’ looks like a product of ‘Jade Rabbit’ after a meal.”

In other words, the imaginative people at Our Space likened a series of ordinary moon rocks to the rover’s soft-eared name, its dinner, and its aftermath. The hope of alien monoliths, it’s not a strange trip on the far side of the moon.

Yutu 2 was the first lunar probe to explore the so-called dark side of the moon, which receives a lot of sunlight but is largely invisible from earth. The expedition vehicle has covered just over 1,000 meters of terrain since landing in January 2019.

Orbiting Mars in 1976, the Viking 1 spacecraft captured what appeared to be a human face on the Martian surface. Subsequent photographs show a rock formation.
