There’s some alchemy magic to wearing jeans with a blazer. It’s one of those outfit combinations that are, as a general rule, timeless – but in the process can be tricky to get right. This formula depends on the whims of how people feel about jeans (or suits or coats). Wear too loosely and you risk looking like you’re at a Planet Hollywood party in 1992; too tight and you run the risk of looking like you’re making up this magazine in 2013.
Today, we’re leaning more towards the late 80s, early 90s than the end of the spectrum. Very helpful, the Elliot Page gave an overall layer in the look last night about Late Night with Seth Meyerspaired a fancy Gucci oversized blazer and blue APC jeans.

Taking a page from Fran Lebowitz’s book about sturdy denim and oversized coats, his monogrammed Gucci jacket (and matching loafers!) feels cool and quaint at the same time, in a way that’s not only an outfit can keep you from talking about late – a night show to teach a Philosophy 101 workshop can.
“In our outfit, Elliot is going for more classic tailoring with a twist,” says stylist Britt Theodora, who did Page’s makeup last night. These days, having fun with it is also something that Page cares about. “What I want to focus on right now and it’s very extraordinary is the level of joy I feel, the level of presence I feel,” he told Meyers in the program. “I feel in a way that I never really thought possible in a long time.”
That line has also appeared in Page’s chic wear lately, from the sleek Gucci tuxedo he wore it to the Oscars to the oversized haute couture Balenciaga he wore to the Met Gala. It’s nice to see it appear in some more ordinary form, like an alchemy.
