The German supplier claims to have a “wear-free” electric motor that is good for towing, driving electric vehicles

German auto supplier Mahle has developed an electric motor that it claims sets new standards for durability.

The super-continuous torque (SCT) motor is “wear-free” and can run continuously at 90% of its maximum capacity, Mahle said in a press release. This makes it ideal for performance EVs, as well as towing, the company says, adding that the new engine is developed for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles.

This durability is achieved by a new integrated oil cooling system that, in addition to performing its primary function, allows waste heat to be collected for other uses, Mahle claims.

As with any new hardware, manufacturer claims obtained from internal testing are not guaranteed to hold up in the real world. And it’s unclear if the SCT engine will be equally effective in the wide range of vehicles Mahle claims it could be used in — from performance cars and commercial trucks to construction equipment and tractors. .

Mahle has not announced any customers for the excise tax engine, and it could prove difficult sales. While many vendors—such as Yamaha—Looking to capitalize on electric vehicle sales growth by developing engines, most automakers specializing in electric vehicles are developing engines in-house rather than buying from suppliers.

Although full-line automakers often buy their engines from suppliers, Outstanding Rivian As the only electric-only automaker now doing so — and even that is due to change.

Tesla, Lucid and Polestar all have developed their own engines. Synthetic engine as well, but it won’t build them.

Meanwhile, Lordstown stands out above all else in that it is the only company that wants to use Elaphe . wheel motor in a pickup truck or SUV — in its Endurance pickup truck, under a licensing agreement with the company. That’s what Ford considered, but in the end it didn’t work for its F-150 Lightning pickup.
