The Golden State Warriors’ propensity to lose is almost legendary. They are the fastest shooters in the West, but they can teach themselves a skill that shoots themselves in the foot too many times this season. On Sunday night, the The Warriors had a victory in their hands that they should have been a long way from the Western Conference’s 2nd seed.

In the final 2.4 seconds, Spurs striker Devin Vassell inexplicably fouled Andrew Wiggins after the Warriors used a loose ball. Wiggins made the first and missed the second, giving Golden State a 108-107 lead. However, Kevon Looney knocked Jakob Poeltl down inside the box, giving Poeltl a chance to take the lead at the free-throw line. First implemented PoSl, then sank the second ball, but Keldon Johnson was somehow able to crank a tilted ball and put it on the backboard, leaving only .3 seconds. Ironically, Otto Porter was incapable of dealing with Poeltl’s mistake-throw dirt on the night of the 16 highest recovery of his career, including eight career best offensive tables.

Sunday’s loss followed a distinct pattern of Golden State’s lavish wins in the fourth quarter of the past two months. On January 21, Golden State’s recklessness got them past Indiana in extra time. The Pacers played without Malcolm Brogdon, Caris LeVert or Domantas Sabonis, and center Goga Bitadze was pushed out before halftime.

On February 27, the Mavericks recovered from a 21-point deficit in the third quarter to hand the Warriors their first all-time regulated loss in a game where they had a more than 20-point lead since 2007. In the Western Conference, every game is important. Golden State is 1.5 games behind the Grizzlies for second seed, two games ahead of the Jazz, with 10 games remaining.

It’s not like they’re down 3-1, but their instability is becoming problematic. Warriors are a mixed bag in clutch situations. In the final five minutes of the game, when a team was leading or trailing by 5 points or less, the Warriors were 22nd in offensive stats and 19th in counterattack percentage. The most interesting trend is 26 percent capture 3 points in clutch time. The only teams worse in game time were the Orlando Magic, Denver Nuggets, San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, Atlanta Hawks and Chicago Bulls.

That inaccurate shooting from the city center was especially detrimental to the team that carried it frequency 3 pointers higher than any opponent that does not come from a state Utah. Golden State annoying woes in terrible time focus the abyss that exists between it and Phoenix Suns. The Warriors’ 49.3 EFfective Field woodoal percentage is 10th in the league. Phoenix’s 63.6 EFG offers a more out-of-the-world feel.

Golden State’s revenue percentage is also 22nd. With age, the Warriors have gotten more intellectual, but they’re still a volatile group in many ways. Golden State kept San Antonio shooting to 38.8 percent on Sunday, but their 15 spins translated into 22 points for the Spurs.

The free-flying style that was once that of The Warriors’ staples often put them in trouble for years. They don’t have a huge talent pool anymore. Golden State must win with a closer score. A combination of Steph Curry’s shooting decline, injury, causing Klay Thompson to relapsehave adapted, and Draymond Green’s absence has left this Warriors team seemingly disjointed when the championship contenders should be at their best.

Annoyingly, they turned the ball as if they had just completed a tackle on Crisco between plays and they recover like that, also. Their shortfall in size, mainly due to James Wiseman’s extensive rehab, has left them vulnerable against teams that are strong again.

Similarly, Draymond Green was absent for the final game of Sunday’s loss after he was knocked out at the start. The core of Golden State over the past decade continues to find new ways to stay out of the ring, to their detriment in close games. They will need all hands on deck for the long term with Curry sidelined until next month. The Durant Warriors have one more device they can turn back on after going through the regular season, but it’s unclear if this will be Golden State’s best after so many recent headaches. . Kerr and Co. must clean up their slick strike execution and steer their shooters to the beat if they’re going to flash across the West like they did in previous years.
