The house of a Mustang family burned down after a house fire lasted for hours. Firefighters said they had a hard time battling the blaze. Much of the house was destroyed and completely lost. KOCO 5 teams were on the scene early Monday morning, and officials said a family of nine lived in the home. The family was able to get out safely after a smoke detector woke them up. Firefighters believe the fire started at the back of the house and quickly spread to the entire house. There were some challenges in putting out the fire, mainly because there were no hydrants nearby in the neighborhood that caused the fire to burn uncontrollably. “This is an area far from our water supply and our hydrants. Our nearest hydrant is about half a mile away, Battalion Commander David Meyer of the OKC Fire Department said. The crew were worried. that dry conditions can lead to grass fires in the vicinity, so they’re spraying down fences and property to prevent sparks from catching fire.
