Windows confirmed the new feature in its latest blog, “We’re reintroducing taskbar overflow, with a new experience designed for Windows 11.”
Currently, Windows 11 and Windows 10 users can only access opened or recently used tabs on the taskbar in a thread. This can be time consuming as it makes it difficult to find a particular app, especially when you have so many apps open. To end the struggle for you, Microsoft testing a new taskbar overflow prevention feature via the Dev channel in Windows Insiders Program. Now it’s easy to find application that you are looking for, no problem how much application is flooding your taskbar. It’s made possible through a feature that will place unrooted apps in a three-dot submenu.
Windows 11’s Taskbar Overflow feature is a time saver
Windows Insider said in a blog, “This taskbar experience has been carefully crafted to give you a more efficient transition and launch experience when space is limited. Your taskbar is yours. will automatically switch to this new overflow when it reaches its maximum capacity.” It further explains the feature that the extras menu now has some features like support for pinned apps, jump list and extended user interface. And this extra menu item disappears when you go out of the menu or navigate to an app. You can reopen it by clicking the three dots to access the full list of opened apps in one go.
However, it is worth noting that this feature is being tested in the Insider Program, it may not be available to the public anytime soon. Maybe Microsoft will roll out this time-saving feature to all users in a major Windows 11 update this fall.
