CARO, Mih. (WNEM) – A woman has filed a lawsuit against her former manager, who allegedly installed a camera in the men’s restroom at Dollar General in Tuscola County.
“So, Elisse, this is the ceiling in the bathroom,” said Attorney Tom Waun, managing partner of Johnson Law.
The hole in the ceiling represents a breach of trust.
“She looked up and there was something glittering there and she investigated and it was a camera,” Waun said.
A woman who works in sales for Dollar General on State Street in Caro has a terrifying realization on April 29.
“Actually, it was a cell phone recording her in the bathroom,” Waun said.
Waun said she immediately called the police and informed the manager.
“The manager then tried to destroy the phone,” Waun said.
He said it was because the manager, Cody Crouch, was the man behind the privacy breach.
“And when the police arrived, they found out it was his phone. They arrested him,” said Waun.
Crouch was charged with the following charges:
- Invasion of privacy, intrusion in seclusion (against both sides)
- Intentionally causing emotional distress (against both parties)
- Basis of General Liability and/or Negligence (against Dolgencorp, LLC)
- Violation of MCL 37.2302, sexual harassment in public (against both parties)
- Negligence in recruitment, retention, training, and supervision (against Dolgencorp, LLC)
Waun said his clients are traumatized and anxious.
Questions remain about how long this has been going on and what was done with the captured images.
“It is sad and scary for my client. She doesn’t know,” said Waun. “She was concerned that it might have been live. She is concerned that it has been captured and sent to someone else. “
Ven Johnson Law is encouraging other employees, customers and suppliers like the victim mentioned here to contact them if they have visited the store and used the restroom between April. 2021 to April 2022 to find out if they may have been accidentally recorded.
