CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) -You may have noticed a hawk flying live over Kinnick Stadium for the first time last season during football games in Hawkeye. That’s something that’s going to happen for the second season this year and with a important messages.

The The Iowa Raptor Project Cooperation with University of Iowa Athletics Let the hawk fly on game day.
“These are Hawkeye State hawks, I mean,” said Ryan Anthony, Iowa Raptor Project Manager.
The birds have been training for the past month and a half to get ready to take to the crowd on game day.
“It was quite intense and especially when we were flying, like wild birds but they are well trained, but you always wonder if it flies well or not,” explains Conrads.
The flights were successful and the people behind the project said, so was the message.
“We have a lot of people coming through the Iowa Raptor Project who have never been to our site before saying we saw you in Kinnick or in the winter in Carver,” Conrads said.
The Iowa Raptor project is funded by the Iowa College of Education and Kirkwood Community College.
It’s a new perspective on conservation, reaching a wider audience than ever before.
“There was a lot of energy and everyone was excited and it was a pretty fun time,” said Anthony.
