Today, we are separating fact from fiction. For all the info on this detox drink, we’ve covered Georgia Thompson, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach based in Austin who has healthy hot habits and how A gentle approach to wellness keeps our society positive, inspiring and high-vibration. Lemonade has been trending for years now, but is it really good for you?
Personally, I’m a big lemonade fan! Most of all, when we mix water with whatever we like — lemons, mints, cucumbers, berries, etc. — we tend to be tempted to drink it. than its. While, yes, lemon water in particular offers a number of health benefits, I think simply drinking MORE water is the biggest health benefit of adding lemon water to your daily wellness routine.
To be more specific, however, lemon water contains a healthy amount of vitamin C (1/6 of your recommended daily intake in 1/2 lemon). Vitamin C helps support our immune system, provides antioxidants that protect cells against free radical damage and is essential for collagen production, iron absorption, and wound healing. , etc
Likewise, the citric acid found in lemon juice can aid in digestion as it has been shown to increase the secretion of gastric acid, a digestive juice that allows you to break down and digest food in your stomach. Just be careful because TOO much lemon can cause acid reflux.
Can drinking lemon water boost metabolism and aid in weight loss?
I wouldn’t go as far as to say that lemon water is a weight loss or metabolic cure, but it can certainly be part of the bigger picture. Making small adjustments to your routine like swapping a sugary soda or juice for lemon juice can really help with weight loss. However, opting for this healthier alternative is lemonade.
How can we make lemonade part of our wellness routine?
I recommend drinking lemon water on an empty stomach first thing in the morning as a reminder to stay hydrated before coffee (a common habit of many of us!). In addition, it can also be a great way to wake up your digestive system.
If you are looking for digestive benefits, I recommend drinking lemon water before a meal as it increases the acid in your stomach which will help you digest your food more efficiently. But overall, any time you remember to drink water is a good thing!
Many people spread the word about the benefits of lemon water in the morning. Why?
Mainly because it is said to help kick-start the digestive system, which can be sluggish in the morning for many people. I also think it’s become popular in the morning as a way to hydrate and replenish first thing (especially before coffee or other dehydrating, caffeinated drinks).
Do you drink lemonade? If so, what benefits have you noticed?
I like my “morning drink,” which consists of warm water, lemon juice, a little apple cider vinegar, and cayenne pepper. This can be a bit overwhelming for some people, so I recommend starting with just the lemon juice, adding some honey to the concoction, or swapping the cayenne for the cinnamon. These additions add to the digestive-promoting benefits of lemon water.
Personally, I find this drink to help when my digestion is sluggish and it makes me more mindful of staying hydrated during the day when I make it a priority to drink it in the morning.
