Despite missing out on Carlos Correa, the New York Mets have an extremely comprehensive roster. However, that doesn’t stop them from upgrading even at this stage.
Reports suggest the team is looking at more pain relievers, especially left-handed ones. Both Andrew Chafin and former New York Yankees quitter Zack Britton are in mind, but the Mets have their concerns about them.
According to NJ.com, SNY’s Andy Martino said:
“As for the LH meds that still have Andrew Chafin and Zack Britton, nothing has changed for the Mets: they like the players but prefer the more optional bullheads at this point in the season. prize. Those two seem like long shots.”
This echoes a sentiment from The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal:
“The Mets have also talked about adding a left-hander, but are wary of signing a veteran who would leave them short of selectable pitchers for minors, do reduced flexibility in the team’s lineup.”
For what it’s worth, ESPN’s Buster Olney also believes the Mets could join Britton:
“Britton… has proven that he has an incredibly high ceiling, with his tough sinker, when healthy. One possible landing spot — the New York Mets. That team has some concerned about carrying too much reliever with no other options, but Britton will give Buck Showalter a different and more balanced left-hander.”
The meet wanted reliable doses that they could also send to the minor leagues when needed. Britton and Chafin don’t quite fit that bill, especially as Britton has recently struggled with health.
brother throws 61.1 in 2019. In the three seasons since, he has thrown 38 in total. The past two seasons in particular have not been good either, as he posted an ERA of 5.89 last year and 13.50 last year.
Is the New York Mets World Series a favorite?
Despite a great productive season, the New York Mets aren’t quite the favorites to win it all.
According to FanDuel, they are currently the third most popular game. Signing Britton or Chafin probably won’t affect that, so they’ll be at +750- draw with the Los Angeles Dodgers and below New York Yankees (+650) and Houston Astros (+600).
