The part of the Pokémon Trading Card game that may not always get as much appreciation as it deserves is the absolutely stunning artwork on each card. Various artists over the years have created so many stunning and varied visuals to keep each series feeling fresh.
To celebrate all of this beautiful artwork, The Pokémon Company has announced that it will be hosting a special online illustration exhibition from August 10 to October 22. You’ll be able to enjoy Enjoy the comfort of your own home. It will include commentary and insights from 50 artists, including Megumi Mizutani and Akira Egawa.. Here is a brief courtesy of the PR:
“The exhibition features three distinct themes that fans can explore: Life, History, and Artists. As the name suggests, Life offers a glimpse into the habitat and habits of the artist. Pokémon; History traces the development of TCG Pokémon illustrations since its inception in 1996; and Artist shows the different approaches artists take to catching a single Pokémon.
“Want to take a closer look at the artwork? Pick a card that interests you to see more clearly details you might not have noticed before. And to get a better idea of what the artist was thinking as they were. creating the card, the exhibition features commentary from the creators who designed each piece on display.With 50 artists each commenting on one of their illustrations, this is a rare opportunity. and interesting to learn more about the talented minds behind the artwork.The exhibition includes works by artists including Megumi Mizutani, Akira Egawa, and many more.”
In related news, Pokémon Trading Card Live beta goes live in select locations globally earlier this week. This exhibition announcement also continued after the Pokémon Company was looking for someone to archive history. Looks like it was able to fill the last slot.
