The Queen Marks First Wedding Anniversary Without Prince Philip

Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her first wedding anniversary since the death of her husband, Prince Philip.

The couple married on November 20, 1947, and spent more than seven decades together until Philip’s death in April, aged 99. Saturday will be their 74th anniversary.

The Queen, 95, recently resumed her engagements after spraining her back.

She was forced to miss a Sunday celebration in London last weekend due to illness, but was photographed meeting an outgoing general at Windsor Castle on Wednesday.

Philip’s death earlier this year ended the couple’s long and staged romance.

Their wedding at Westminster Abbey, when they were still Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten, attracted worldwide attention and took place just five years before Elizabeth ascended the throne following her sudden death. Her father, King George VI.

The couple has enjoyed the longest partnership of any sovereign nation. Following Philip’s death, the Queen said her family was “in a time of great grief.”

“It has been a comfort to all of us to see and hear the dedication to my husband, from those within the UK, the Commonwealth and around the world,” she added. .
