The Raiders’ Chandler Jones Looks Like a Failed Freelance
Raiders has had several failed free agents over the past decade. They can add Chandler Jones to the growing list.
In March, Las Vegas signed Jones to a three-year contract with Guaranteed $32 million. Adding Jones seems like a good idea as they are bolstering their defense with a four-time Pro Bowler.
Jones did not live up to expectations. He only scored a half bag in seven games. He scored 10.5 bags last season in Arizona.
As a result, his playing time has dropped. In the game against New Orleans, he played just 62% of defensive saves, the lowest of the season. In the Raiders’ previous five games, Jones played over 81.5% of defensive saves.
It is disappointing because Jones has struggled while the Raiders defense has not improved.
When Las Vegas signed Jones, it was hoped he would turn the defense into a top-level unit. In the year 2021, it has a good defence, surrendering 337.2 yards per game, better than league average.
This year it allows 366.2 yards per game, worse league average.
As a result, the Raiders suffered 2-5 and finished last in the AFC West.
