“The Stakes Are a Lot Higher”
Jason Momoa teases an Aquaman movie that’s bigger and better — and wetter — in Aquaman and the Misplaced Kingdom. The sequel, surfacing December 2022 from DC Films and Warner Bros., reunites Momoa with the Aquaman ingenious employees of director James Wan and screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. After reeling throughout the largest field workplace of any DC Comics film with Aquaman‘s world haul of $1.14 billion in 2018, Momoa says Aquaman 2 is “pulling out all of the stops” with stakes which could be “heaps bigger.”
“All of us realized one factor on the first one. It’s thrilling because of I’ve not made too many sequels. Aquaman observed the half-Atlantean, half-human Arthur Curry (Momoa) be a part of forces with undersea Xebellian princess Mera (Amber Heard) to stop his half-brother, Orm the Ocean Grasp (Patrick Wilson), from waging warfare on the floor world. After that world journey taking place on land and throughout the sea, Aquaman and the Misplaced Kingdom takes the movement to “a whole totally different diploma” with an evolution of the know-how used to depict the underwater kingdom of Atlantis in Aquaman and Justice League.
“I imagine merely throughout the last three or 4 years, know-how is regularly [evolving]… it’s merely transferring at such a speedy tempo that what we’re doing with underwater [sequences], I indicate, that’s what made the first one so very good,” said Momoa. “It’s merely gone on to a whole totally different diploma, so I’m excited for everyone because of it’s merely rather more coronary coronary heart. There’s rather more at risk.”
Heard and Wilson reprise their roles reverse Momoa and returning Aquaman stars Dolph Lundgren, who performs Mera’s father King Nereus; Randall Park as Atlantis-obsessed marine biologist Dr. Stephen Shin; Temuera Morrison as Arthur’s human father; and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as vengeful villain Black Manta. Turning into a member of them are three new forged members: Jani Zhao (Sentimentos) as Stingray, Indya Moore (Pose) as Karshon the Shark, and Vincent Regan (300) as Atlan, the standard ruler of Atlantis.
Momoa’s aquatic Justice Leaguer will placed on a modern stealth swimsuit impressed by the comic books as part of a model new story co-written by Momoa and Johnson-McGoldrick.
“After we ended the first one I went in with my writing companion and we dreamed up the second and we went in and pitched the idea,” Momoa said on The Drew Barrymore Present. “The proper issue I could offer you is that I prefer it rather a lot that I participated throughout the writing of it. And so, we did the first treatment after which James and our distinctive writer David accomplished it off. And all of our hearts are in it. In its place of merely, like, getting a script and doing that, you’re 100% being impressed by your director and co-writers. So that’s thrilling for me and I’m excited to go over there.”
Aquaman and the Misplaced Kingdom opens on December 16, 2022.
