The victim of the car rollover accident escaped, was hit by 2 cars and died on I-435 in KC

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A fatal crash shut off the northbound lanes of Interstate 435 for three and a half hours on Tuesday night, after a victim jumped out of his vehicle and was hit by two vehicles. Others are running over and crashing.

Officers and emergency crews responded at 10:51 p.m. to an incident on I-435 at 23rd Street, near the Truman Sports Complex. Police say a maroon Toyota RAV 4 was traveling north on the interstate when it hit the median and overturned. The vehicle’s passenger then got out and began driving along I-435, where he was hit by a Chevrolet Spark, then a Toyota Camry, according to the Kansas City Police Department.

Both cars hit the man who pulled over and later spoke to police. Police said both drivers were uninjured and there was no sign of deterioration in either driver’s health.

The victims died at the scene. The driver of the RAV 4 — the vehicle in the initial collision — was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It’s not clear why the passengers got out of the car and sped along the interstate.
