UPDATE: Wife of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was sentenced to three years in prison on Tuesday, November 30, according to a press release from the US Department of Justice issued by E! News.

Aispuro conspired with her husband – who the department describes as “the leader of a Mexican drug trafficking organization known as the Sinaloa Cartel” – to bring drugs into the United States.

According to the press release, she trafficked in cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana, and was an accomplice of gang activities from about 2011 to 2017.

Authorities added, “U.S. District Court Judge Rudolph Contreras also issued a forfeiture order against Coronel Aispuro in the amount of $1,499,970, representing the proceeds and assets of Coronel. Aispuro obtained through her drug dealings.”
