Thelma Sutcliffe: The oldest person in America has died at the age of 115

Her grandson Robert Sorenson, 94, said: “She passed away peacefully in Omaha at an assisted living facility.

Sutcliffe becomes oldest in the US on April 17, 2021, according to the Gerontology Research Group. She is also the 7th oldest person in the world.

Luella Mason, a longtime friend, told CNN that Sutcliffe has lost most of her sight and some hearing, but is otherwise “still very sharp.”

Sutcliffe has credited her long life with the fact that she has never had children, never smoked, and believes strongly in never worrying about anything, Mason said.

The last time Sorenson saw his aunt was two years ago. “We had planned to meet, but the pandemic hit; we talked on the phone often,” said Sorenson, who lives in the Phoenix area.

“I was the last relative she had. She was so important to me. She’s been good to me and my siblings all these years,” added Sorenson.
