Thief steals truck full of beer, leads officers in low-speed pursuit through Providence
PROVIDENCE, RI (WLNE) –
There was a large police presence at a scene in Providence where the driver of a beer truck was robbed of a power pole.
Police say the truck driver was delivering a delivery at A to Z Liquors at the intersection of Chad Brown and Douglas Avenue when the thief snuck into the driver’s seat around 2:45 p.m. Monday. ABC6 News has reached out to A to Z Liquors to confirm this, and a spokesperson denied it had any shipments from the trucking company, McLaughlin & Moran, that afternoon.
Drivers attempted to confront the thief, who led police in a low-speed pursuit that ended with the truck swerving over the curb and crashing into a power pole on the corner of Longwood & Isabella Avenue.
Police said the only damage was a few yards nearby and minor damage to a power pole. During the pursuit, an unspecified amount of alcohol was lost due to the loading door being opened.
ABC6 News has reached out to McLaughlin & Moran for more information. General Manager Mike Norton was not available for comment.
The suspect, Jeremy Fellela, 44, of Cranston, was charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle, reckless and evasive police conduct, and refusal to undergo chemical testing. Neither the suspect nor the driver was injured.
Fellela will be sorted tomorrow.
This is a developing story, more information will be added as it becomes available.
