The direction of the U.S. men’s national team nearly three months after the World Cup campaign in Qatar began is in flux. Yanks is driving, but doesn’t know whether to press the gas or brake. The car was in neutral at an acceptable time, but not ideal. Make the right decision with who trains USMNT Moving forward will change the agenda, as that country must benefit from hosting the World Cup in 2026. The Frenchman also served as head coach of the MLS, although those terms ended badly. If you can’t start coaching in America’s domestic league, why are we giving you the keys to influencing the best talent this country has? At least Gregg Berhalter had that after leading the Columbus crew.
Assuming Berhalter’s tenure with the group ended after the movie that originated in Reyna’s family and the USMNT didn’t win the knockout in Qatar, Jesse Marsch seemed like a good fit. Even after his sacking as manager of Leeds United and his flirtation with becoming the new boss of relegation candidate Southampton, a return to the state is still possible. It appear Marsch wants to stay in Europe. If there are no popular picks and US Soccer wants to go big instead of picking an American, there are plenty of worse options out there than Henry. Provided the US splashes out big money and misses out on Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane, letting the Arsenal legend is a risky but right move.
Managing a national team is much different than a club team for obvious reasons, with finding a system that benefits your players being the goal of the former manager. The latter is quite the opposite, in that finding players who fit a particular system and complete it is the goal. Henry’s teams had trouble linking into a unified system, which wasn’t a big deal for Yanks. It will be as simple as getting on the same page as the integral players of the team and letting them lead the way. Get some competitive games under the USMNT’s belt with new coaches before they can show up in Copa America 2024that the United States does not automatically qualify as the host, which means that US Soccer needs to hire a coach in May with the Gold Cup taking place this summer.

Henry clearly knows what it takes to play at the highest levels professionally and could be a mentor to Americans hoping to raise their profile when not wearing the stars and stripes. Christian Pulisic plays for Chelsea, Matt Turner is a fellow Gunner, and Sergino Dest plays for AC Milan. There aren’t many others playing for big clubs in Europe and Henry could be a huge help in that way. Yet, it is all about World Cup results for three and a half years. And among all the names that have come up to be the head coach of the USMNT, Henry is a strong contender, where huge rewards as well as Hindenburg-like disasters are easy to see. Either way, American Football is going to go big.
