Thieves steal gas from a car in St. Louis after puncturing the gas tank

ST. LOUIS (KMOV) – Residents in the St. Louis Hills said someone stole gas from a vehicle Saturday morning by punching a hole in the gas tank.

The incident happened in the 5000 block of McCausland Avenue at around 3:30 a.m. Residents shared with News 4 surveillance videos of the suspected vehicle the thieves were driving.

St. Fire Department Louis responded to the scene to spray water with the remaining gas. A resident of the neighborhood said this was the first time she heard of someone stealing gasoline in the neighborhood.

Mary Beth Howard, resident of St. Louis Hills, said: ‘There’s nothing crazier than stealing gas from the tank but we’ve had a number of car raids and people taking whatever’s in the dashboard. “People are talking about the price of gasoline skyrocketing to absurd levels. So I mean, I think they need gas, they’re either selling it somehow to someone else or like I said, they’re going through our neighborhoods and rummaging through our cars and they are showing up in the car. “

News 4 is still awaiting a response from the St. Louis about the prevalence of this type of crime.
