This giant ship generates electricity from ocean currents
Thanks to advances in green energy technology, we are seeing more and more ways to generate and use renewable energy. In Scotland, a company is reinventing the generating turbine with a massive fabrication technology called Orbital O2 2MW. Orbital O2 is a floating tidal turbine platform designed to resist climate change by generating clean electricity for millions of homes. The giant ship is attached to an anchor system and uses blades to catch moving currents while it drifts across the open sea. The captured currents lead to the power generating cells to generate clean energy. Orbital says that a single amount of O2 can generate 2.5 megawatts of electricity, enough to power 1,700 UK homes annually. O2 is very large; 236 feet tall, it’s about the same length as a 747 jumbo jet with 59-foot foldable legs and 32.8-foot wings. Should this technology be everywhere?
