This Pharmacy Skincare Process Is As Good As A Luxury Routine — For Half The Price

There is nothing more difficult than trying to perfect skin care routine. There are so many products out there that it can be difficult to figure out where to start. Not only that, a lot of skin care products are expensive, and for many of us, putting $600 worth of serums and lotions on our faces every day just isn’t realistic when you know, We’re also buying groceries and paying rent.

Fortunately, many pharmacy products as good as luxury people (if not better! Yes, you heard me!). While I will always splurge on certain luxuries when possible, I find that my skin can and does look good when I opt for cheaper products.

The biggest obstacle to a good thing skin care regimen is knowing how to choose and use products. I talked to Dr. Lian Mack, MD Board Certified Dermatologist and Founder GlamDerm and Dr. Fatima Fahs, a board-certified dermatologist based in Michigan and the creator of Dermay Document Box to find the best Basic skin care routine—And I include product selections that won’t break the bank to help you recreate that product at home.

But first, let’s look at some ground rules. Mack said: “By day you protect, by night you repair. With that in mind, let’s get started — keep reading to get to the bottom of it skin care routine.

Start gently cleanser Removes dirt and impurities without being too harsh. Keep more active ingredients for the night and choose simple cleansing formulas in the morning.

After cleansing, apply an even layer of antioxidant serum. “My antioxidant of choice is one vitamin C serum,” said Fahs. “It can enhance the effectiveness of sunscreen and help fight free radicals, helping to brighten and strengthen your skin.” A little goes a long way here — you only need five or six drops.

This is the most important part of any skin care regimen. If you don’t wear it sunscreen, you might as well not take any other steps, since you’re essentially canceling them. “Sunscreen not only reduces your risk of skin cancer, but it also protects your collagen from degradation and premature aging,” says Fahs. When choosing a sunscreen, Mack recommends using one with SPF 30 or higher.

“If you’re wearing makeup, consider the ‘double-cleansing’ method,” says Fahs. “Choose an oil-based cleanser or cleansing balm to emulsify your makeup, then use a gentle cleanser like Eucerin Hydrating Gel Cleanser to make sure you remove any remaining residue. ” This is the best way to ensure your skin is a blank canvas for the rest of your nighttime routine.

Both Mack and Fahs recommend choosing a retinoid to help speed up cell turnover, increase collagen production, and improve skin texture.

Seal everything up with a moisturizer so you can wake up with glowing and hydrated skin. According to Fahs, moisturizer helps repair your skin’s barrier overnight.

Before you go to bed, this is the perfect time to replenish moisture where you need it most – on your lips. Wake up to soft, plump lips every morning by adding an emollient before bed. Pro tip: Fahs says you can also apply an emollient around your eyes if you’re too dry.

“For dry skin, I love hyaluronic acid,” says Mack. “Hyaluronic acid is a large molecule. When applied to the skin, it sits on top, acting as a humectant and pulling water.”

However, don’t just apply hyaluronic acid and call it a day. To really get the most benefit from a humectant, make sure to combine it with your other products. “Think of a hyaluronic acid serum as a step before Fahs says: your moisturizer to absorb hydration. The moisturizer will act as a sealant.

If you have oily skin, you might consider adding a toner after washing your face to help regulate oil production. “I recommend combining a toner with an acid to help reduce [oil],” said Mack. Choose one with AHAs or BHAs like salicylic and glycolic acids.

Swap retinoids for bakuchiol. “People with sensitive skin usually have no trouble tolerating retinoids or retinol,” says Mack. “These ingredients are often too drying, especially if someone is prone to dry, red skin. As an alternative, I generally recommend products that incorporate plant-based retinols like bakuchiol. Bakuchiol has properties similar to retinol, without causing irritation. “
