This prototype plane from Astrolab is designed to help the inhabitants of Mars

Every year, we get closer and closer to being able to travel into space for commercial purposes. As technology advances to support that dream, there is one company in particular that is turning heads. Astrolab is aiming to support NASAThe goal of creating habitable bases on the Moon and Mars with FLEX. Flexible Transport and Exploration (FLEX) is a lunar rover aimed at helping interplanetary settlers adapt to their new environment in space.

The FLEX’s wheel-on-foot travel system adapts to its environment to be used for crew transportation, freight, construction and more. While the system is still a prototype, Astrolab claims that the FLEX can withstand a maximum payload of more than 2,200 pounds. It can also raise and lower the ground clearance, maintaining better ground clearance to adapt to the terrain and focus on stability. The prototype is also equipped with airless tires specially designed for traveling in soft ground.

What do you think of permanent life on the moon and Mars? Is that something you are looking forward to seeing in your life? Let us know in the comments section.
