‘Thought I was a dream’: Warriors’ Andrew Wiggins reacts to career first NBA All-Star pick

Hours before the Warriors’ Thursday night game against the Timberwolves, forward Andrew Wiggins was informed of his selection as starter when the Inside the NBA team announced the NBA kickoff for the All-Star Game.

He was one of three strikers selected as starters along with the likes of LeBron James and incumbent MVP Nikola Jokic. Also named on the Western Conference team were Ja Morant and Wiggins’ teammate, Stephen Curry.

The #1 pick from the 2014 NBA Draft is the third Canadian ever to be named an All-Star and the first since 2012 when Steve Nash made his eighth and final appearance at the All-Star.

His pure joy of achievement can be seen in the heartwarming video released by Warriors pregame.

Over 45 games this season, he has averaged 18.1 points on his career-highest shooting performance of 48.3% from the pitch and 41.2% from 3-pointers, where he produced 2.2. 3 points per game.

In the match, Wiggins scored 19 goals including five in three as the Warriors beat the Timberwolves 124-115 and extended their league best home record to 23-4.

After the game, he shared a moment with his former teammate Karl-Anthony Towns.

“It means a lot,” Wiggins said of the All-Star selection. “I’ve worked hard in different situations and I’ve found a home here, something that works.”

“Nothing but love,” Wiggins shared his teammates’ reaction. “As soon as I get here, in the game, this whole time, I’m sure when I come down to the dressing room they’ll give me more affection. So it’s a special feeling.”
