Three dead and four others injured after a shooting at a New Year’s Eve party in Mississippi
Gulfport Police said the fatal incident at the Gulfport celebration occurred just minutes before the end of 2021.
Initial police investigation revealed that a large crowd had gathered outside for a New Year’s Eve party. During the party, a physical conflict ensued and quickly escalated to multiple people shooting, Gulfport Police Department Superintendent Chris Ryle said at a news conference Saturday.
“When there’s a party where alcohol, drugs and assault rifles are involved, it’s a recipe for disaster,” says Ryle. “Once again this has proven to be fact.”
Shells from handguns and rifles were found at the scene. Ryle estimates more than 50 shots were fired in the fatal incident.
The Harrison County coroner identified the murder victims as 23-year-old Corey Dubose of D’Iberville, 28-year-old Sedrick McCord of Gulfport and 22-year-old Aubrey Lewis of Bay St. Louis, according to Jase Payne, director of marketing and communications for the city of Gulfport.
Of the injured, one remained in critical condition and the other three suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
