Thursday NHL bets: Three games of the night

Thursday may be about March Madness (and we’ve covered the betting angles for games here on Yardbarker), but there are still some games of great interest in the NHL.

I found three in particular that I liked to score, so I added too much to each one.

Let me explain what I saw Thursday night in hockey.

Washington-Columbus over 6.5 (-105 DK)

My initial draw here was definitely in Washington’s favor, but after digging around a bit I think there’s enough juice in the Columbus end to feel satisfied about the endgame.

The Blue Jackets are averaging 3.8 goals per game in their last five home games and the Capitals are conceding 3.4 goals in their last five matches. So, at first glance, it’s a great choice.

My initial concern was that Columbus would go deep, but my anxiety was quelled after looking back at their head-to-head history this season.

Of the nine B2B Blue Jackets played, the average game goal was 8.0 per contest.

Columbus tends to concede more goals in these situations, which further reinforced my initial idea of aiming for the Capitals to score.

Washington is averaging 3.7 goals per game in their past 10 matches, while Columbus is averaging 3.9 goals in the last 10 at home.

There’s a lot to like here, and it gets us the previous three games between these two teams this season.

Total went more than twice, cherry at the top of this selection.

Buffalo-Edmonton over 6.5 (-120 DK)

This game has a lot of ending points, so I’m watching for the signs.

Let’s start with some simple numbers: Edmonton is averaging 4.0 goals per game in their last 5 home games and Buffalo is scoring 4.2 goals in the last 5.

That certainly makes you love the Oilers side, and I hope they do the heavy lifting here.

It’s always a fair bet to corner Edmonton when Mike Smith gets into the net, and yes, it will be tonight.

Smith is conceding 3.57 goals per game this season, and the Oilers as a team are seeing opponents score 4.2 goals against them in their last five home games.

Buffalo’s scoring has dwindled a bit, but on an expected goals basis, they’re on collisions. Thursday feels like a great opportunity for them to make 3 here.

I have a feeling Tage Thompson will score tonight.

Islanders-Rangers over 5.5 (+100 DK)

We’ve had two New York teams get through it and I really like this 5.5 which is +100.

The islanders were overactive as a team. The scoreline is 9-2-1 in their last 12 games, and I see a significant power play advantage here for the Isles, showing they can score in a few goals with a man advantage.

The Islanders are averaging 3.0 goals per game in their last five games, and Igor Shesterkin has recently conceded a goal, allowing four games to return.

I’m counting on Rangers to deliver the scoring punch in this game. They averaged 3.6 goals per game in their last 5 home games and the Islanders have let their opponents score more than 3 goals on a consistent basis.

Four consecutive Rangers games have passed, further supporting the positive trends in this game.

Through the lens of goal expectations permitting, both of these New York teams left more points behind them.

Add it all up, and I think we can hit six goals here.

Good luck tonight!
