Tia Mowry has been an open book since filing for divorce from Cory Hardrict in early October. Although she was the result of the end of a 14-year marriage, Mowry has said that she is at peace. In her latest public comment on their breakup, she revealed how she views their relationship once it’s headed in the right direction.
While on TODAY with Hoda & Jenna, Tia explains that she knows it’s over after really focusing on her happiness.
“I feel like as women, we tend to focus on everyone’s happiness, making sure everyone is okay, that is, our children, our friends, our family. But at the end of the day, it’s about self-love, and when you really start working on yourself, loving yourself, knowing your worth, knowing your worth, then suddenly, there’s an awakening. this.”
Although the journey is “not easy,” Tia said, “It was worth it.” Mowry shared that the first time she talked about how she felt was in 2018. Her self-reflection came after the death of her grandmother and the death of her married niece, Alaina Housley, in a mass shooting in California. The deaths associated with the therapy sparked her ah-ha moment.
“Both [grandmother and Alaina] at the same time..there’s an ah-ha moment in me when I say, you need to touch, see what’s really going on with your happiness, life is short, let’s go, let’s get to work for you and focus on what really matters here is at the end of the day, your peace, your joy and your happiness,” Tia said.
Tia considers marriage “successful” despite divorce
Mowry filed for divorce on October 4 – seeking joint physical and legal custody of their children Cree, 11, and Cairo, 4. She also asked the judge to end the ability to award spousal support to her or Cory, noting their prenuptial. The separated couple married in 2008 and remarried in 2013. She confirmed the end of her relationship with a statement on social media.
“These decisions are never easy, and not without sadness. We will maintain our friendship as we raise our beautiful children together. I am grateful for all the happy times we had together,” Tia wrote.
Days later, Cory quashed speculation that infidelity on his part led to their divorce.
While said above TODAY, Tia explains that their marriage is still successful, despite the divorce.
“My marriage was successful. I see it as a curriculum when you’re in college or high school. You’re learning, you’re growing, you’re growing, you’re creating, and I was able with Cory to create wonderful, beautiful children. And at the end of that curriculum, and finally the graduation ceremony. There was a celebration, so that’s basically how I’m looking at it now,” she said.
The sister, sister The star also explained that longevity does not determine the success of a marriage.
“Ultimately, the question is ‘are they happy, do they thrive, do they thrive.’ I feel that’s the most important thing, not staying at something because no matter how long you stay in that situation, it’s the same as success,” Tia said.
