Tiffany is selling the most expensive jewelry ever
The “World’s Equity Necklace,” which debuted in Dubai on Sunday, features a stunning 180-carat diamond in platinum. At its center is an 80-carat oval (highest grade and virtually colorless) D-color diamond, named after the iconic jeweler’s hometown. Empire Diamond is ethically sourced in Botswana, cut and polished in Israel and housed in Tiffany’s New York City workshop.
The good news for jewelry lovers with big pockets is that this necklace is available for sale – unlike Tiffany’s famous 128.54 carat “Tiffany Diamond”, which Tiffany says is priceless and is not to buy.
The retailer says the design for the World’s Fair Necklace was inspired by a Tiffany necklace made for the 1939 World’s Fair held at Queens’ Flushing Meadow-Corona Park. That design features a 200 carat aquamarine stone and over 400 diamonds.
The reimagined World’s Fair necklace can be worn in an unexpected way: The wearer can carefully take out the Empire Diamond and attach it to a platinum ring, with the help of a Tiffany jeweler, who will call whenever that service is requested. Naturally.
