Toyota GR Yaris concept unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon
Toyota used Tokyo Auto Salon to launch a series Yaris GR-Based on concept and special edition.
GR Yaris RZ Sébastien Ogier Edition Concept
The concept celebrates Sébastien Ogier, who won the driver’s title in the 2021 FIA World Racing Championship and previewed a special production version.
More details, including release details, will be revealed soon.
It is finished in matte silver, with a large rear spoiler, WRC championship decals, blue brake calipers and flag decorations on the wheels.
Inside, there are unique blue, white and red stitching on the steering wheel and a plaque on the front panel.
It gets a bump in torque to 390Nm – as seen in GRMN Japanese market and upgraded vehicles with Performance Software 2.0 – plus “dedicated controls” for the 4WD mode selector.
GR Yaris RZ Kalle Rovanperä Edition Concept
Kalle Rovanperä, who won the driver’s title in 2022, also received an idea commemorating him.
As with the Ogier Edition, the launch time and other details will be revealed later.
It’s less refined than the Ogier Edition, with its colorful red, white, and gray exterior. It also has a large rear spoiler and various aerodynamics, along with red brake calipers and WRC championship decals.
Inside, there are blue, white and red stitching on the steering wheel and a special WRC plate.
Like the Ogier version, it also gets dedicated 4WD mode control plus increased torque to 390Nm.
GR Yaris GR . Parts Concept
Toyota has revealed a GR Parts concept version of the GR Yaris, wearing a range of parts that it will begin offering at GR Garages in Japan from the end of this month.
The first parts Toyota will offer are interior parts: a unique suede-wrapped steering wheel, gearshift and handbrake lever, plus full recaro bucket seats.
Later this year, it will begin offering the carbon bonnet and rear spoiler seen on this concept, as well as cold air ducts and NACA ducts, and a shock absorber.
We have reached out to Toyota Australia to confirm if these parts are available here.
Concept GR Yaris Rally2
After revealing it late last year, Toyota showcased the GR Yaris Rally2 Concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
The Rally2 Concept is not a preview of a road car, but a competition product for the Rally2 series developed by Toyota in Japan, Toyota Gazoo Racing Europe in Germany and Toyota Gazoo Racing World Rally Team OY in Finland Lan.
For this motorsport research model, Toyota took the standard GR Yaris and fitted it with race-specific components like the anti-roll cage and FIA-compliant rear spoiler.
Toyota also says it uses a special engine, sequential transmission, suspension and brakes.
It continues to use the turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine, although it is mated to a five-speed transmission.
Toyota also says it has reduced weight compared to the GR Yaris. FIA regulations stipulate a minimum weight of 1230kg, while the standard GR Yaris has a tare weight of 1290kg.
Since GR Yaris was developed from the ground up with the goal of winning WRC, there is a solid base from which Rally2 is built.
Toyota will be participating in a concept car, temporarily called the GR Yaris WR Concept, in the Japan Rally Championship. It said it will continue to develop and receive feedback from customer motorsport teams, with the goal of achieving parity by January 2024.
