Train tracks in southern Alberta, diesel fuel leaks
Traffic on Highway 23 is being rerouted as an anti-hazmat team from Calgary and emergency teams from southern Alberta deal with a train derailment near Barons Village.
The CP Rail train was heading north when one engine derailed and several empty fuel carriages overturned, according to the RCMP.
No injuries have been reported.
“The engine derailed due to its lean angle currently at rest, causing diesel fuel to leak from the fuel entry point,” the RCMP said in a statement.
“CP Rail as well as a hazmat team are responding from Calgary.”
Northbound traffic is being rerouted at Highway 23 and Road 114.
Southbound traffic is being rerouted at Highway 23 and Town Road 120.
The public is asked to avoid this area.
Baron is about 170 kilometers southeast of Calgary.
