At the end of Thursday night’s broadcast, Trevor Noah shocked live audiences and viewers at home by announcing that after seven years he would be stepping down as host. The Daily Show.

Noah went on to say that he came to the decision after he was finally able to get back on track as a stand-up comedian after two years of hosting from his New York apartment. “I miss other countries and participating in performances,” he said. “I miss being everywhere and doing everything.”
After thanking everyone who helped him get to where he ended up, Noah said, “I never dreamed I would be here”, comparing himself to his title character. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory who was “given the key” by Stewart’s Willy Wonka.
He concluded by assuring viewers that this would not be his last and would “remain here for the time being”, adding, “all I can say is thank you very much. much”.
Earlier in his comments, Noah described himself as a “random African guy” who was chosen to host one of the most influential shows on television. And it’s true that when it was first announced as Stewart’s successor, the American audience was virtually unknown.
In the seven years since, his profile has not only emerged as a worldwide hit, with Netflix specials, best selling memoirsand gigs hosting the Grammys and Dinner of the White House reporters only in the past year.
When Noah spoke to The Daily Beast just a few months after his tenure in 2016, he said, “I never intended to replace Jon Stewart. I am not replacing him.
