Trump protests Texas: Former president teases presidential campaign, suspended January 6
Trump’s comments came during a campaign-style rally in Texas, in which he lamented the criminal prosecutions facing Capitol rioters for their efforts to disrupt public service. counting the votes of the electorate after he lost the 2020 election, he said the rioters were being treated “so unfairly.”
“If I run for office and if I win, we will treat those people fairly as of January 6. We will treat them fairly,” Trump said. “And if it asks for amnesty, we’ll pardon them. Because they’re being treated so unfairly.”
“It’s a disgrace. It’s a disgrace,” Trump said of the prosecutions and prison sentences the rioters have faced.
Trump has not made it clear that he will run for president in 2024. Doing so would trigger a series of legal and campaign-finance requirements.
But he said, in 2024, “We’re going to take back the White House.”
Trump also used the speech against New York prosecutors’ investigation into his business empire, calling for “the biggest protests we’ve ever had” if prosecutors “do anything wrong or illegal.”
“These prosecutors are evil, horrible people. They are racists and they are very sick – they are mentally ill,” he said. “They’re spying on me without any protection of my rights from the Supreme Court or most other courts. In fact, they’re not tracking me, they’re spying on you.”
