TTC extends deadline for employees to receive 2nd dose of COVID-19 vaccine – Toronto

The Toronto Transportation Commission (TTC) said it is extending the deadline for employees to receive a second COVID-19 vaccine.

In a letter to affected employees, TTC’s director of employee relations said those who receive and submit proof of their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine by Friday will have to wait until Friday. January 27 for a second shot or they will be fired the next day.

During that time, they will be on unpaid leave but can return after receiving both shots.

Unvaccinated employees were placed on unpaid leave beginning November 21 and were previously told they had until December 30 to receive both doses of the vaccine or they would be fired. effective December 31st.

The letter said the extension came after the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) changed the optimal recommended time between the first and second doses to eight weeks, up from three weeks for for Pfizer and four weeks for Moderna.

However, the letter said the extension would not apply to employees who failed to provide proof of having had the first dose on Friday; they will still be fired on December 31st if not fully vaccinated.

TTC spokesman Stuart Green noted that 93% of active TTC employees are fully immunized.

City of Toronto also extended deadline for second shoot

Last week, the city of Toronto also announced that it was extending the deadline for employees to receive a second shot.

City employees reported on October 31 that they had received a dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and will now be given at least eight weeks for a second dose.

The previous deadline was December 13.
