Twitter Blue for Business now lets companies identify their employees TechCrunch
Twitter launches “Green for business” last week along with the relaunch of Twitter Blue. At that time, the social network assigned the business a golden check mark. Now it is providing some more details.
With Blue for Business, Twitter is also offering an additional badge — check out our check mark and badge guide — helps organizations identify a brand and the people associated with it.
Esther Crawford, product manager for Twitter, said the social media platform is rolling out a Blue for Business pilot program with select businesses. Crawford said the company plans to expand this to more organizations next year.
People with Blue for Business will also receive a small badge next to their profile display name, confirming to others that they work with said organization. For example, you might see a square Twitter badge next to Crawford’s display name.
Brands, media companies, and others now have square profile pictures instead of round ones, making the distinction more obvious. But it’s not clear if the square profile picture is part of the Blue for Business plan.
Twitter has yet to share details on how much Blue for Business will charge and what other perks it may claim, but insists that “a company can link any number of individuals, businesses, and which brand is associated with their account”.
The company says organizations, media houses and sports teams can use the feature to link the accounts of their employees, journalists and players.
“By making this connection, we make it possible for businesses to network within their own organization—on Twitter. Businesses can link their leadership, brand, support handles, employees, or teams. Journalists, sports team players or movie personalities can all be linked,” Twitter said in a statement a blog post.
While identifying associated brands and employees is a good feature for companies, they will want more benefits from this plan.
Twitter has been on a roller coaster ride for the past 48 hours. The company has put in place a terrible policy that prohibits linking and dealing with other social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Mastadon and even affiliate tools in the Linktree bio and lnk.bio. After facing backlash over that, Twitter quickly deleted the tweets and policy page detailing the announcement. On the other hand, the head of Twitter, Elon Musk, put out a poll asking people whether he should step down as CEO – and 57% of people voted in favor of it.
