Twitter Circles: New selective tweeting service launched for users nervous about posting to the entire Twitterverse | Science & Technology News
A new Twitter service, allowing users to share their tweets with a small select audience, has been launched.
Twitter Circle – similar to Instagram’s ‘best friend’ feature – only allows up to 150 people to view a tweet.
Users can create another Circle with up to 150 people each time they tweet, and can choose who to see – whether they follow them or not.
It is designed to allow people to share thoughts with a smaller group than the full Twitterverse.
The service was first tested in May and fully rolled out on Tuesday.
The motivation behind Circles is to give users more control over their privacy, although Twitter warns Circles tweets will still follow the platform’s community guidelines.
People in Twitter Circles can’t repost content outside or within their own Twitter Circles, although people inside can still take screenshots of posts.
Jay Sullivan, general manager of consumer products and sales at Twittersays Circle was born to help people with Tweet anxiety around the globe “break the ice, feel more comfortable Tweeting”.
It’s “a way to communicate more privately with your people,” he said.
He added: “You can share your thoughts on culture, sports, music, work – or personal updates – with a smaller list of people you choose, rather than the full list of people. world.
“Select your Circles up to 150 and share! We’ll continue to build a healthier, more enjoyable Twitter so each of you can join the public conversation your way. only me.”

Circles are created in the user’s settings.
Once the group is selected, a circle-only tweet will be sent by following the prompt that pops up when composing a new tweet.
Posts submitted to Circles have a marker at the bottom and appear on the Circle followers’ overall timeline.
Only followers of Colleague Circles can reply and see new replies.
