Two firefighters injured after man set fire to home in Lawrenceville | News

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (CBS46) – Two firefighters were injured after a house fire was set on fire by a Lawrenceville man Saturday night.

At around 9 p.m., a woman said her husband had locked himself in his bedroom and set something on fire, fire officials said. The woman was able to evacuate the children and mother-in-law out of the house safely.

When the fire brigade arrived, they noticed light smoke and went upstairs when two firefighters called “mayday” signaling they were in trouble. Both firefighters suffered burns and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

The man was outside the house before the fire brigade arrived and declared he had started the fire but insisted it was an accident. He was later taken into custody by the Gwinnett County Fire Bureau and is facing felony Devastation and Domestic Violence charges.
