Two organizations are working to build new shelters for asylum seekers in Reynosa

Two organizations are working to provide shelter to asylum seekers in Reynosa.

Kaleo International, a church in Reynosa, and Sidewalk School, a nonprofit that provides resources for asylum seekers, are building dormitories and bathrooms to house families and people black asylum seeker currently living at Plaza de la Republica in Reynosa.

“We wanted to be able to provide a safe place for them to process the important life decisions they have to make,” said Pastor Joshua Muse of Kaleo International.

Most of the nearly 2,000 migrants living near the Hidalgo-Reynosa bridge will be moved to baseball fields in the Aquiles Serdan area, as Channel 5 News previously reported.

City and School Sidewalks are contributing to the construction of security walls and bathrooms.

One of the reasons Sidewalk School agreed to move some of the migrants to Kaleo International church’s ranch is because it’s just minutes from the baseball field.

“These dormitories will house at least 300 asylum seekers and will have multiple bathrooms,” said Felicia Rangel-Samponaro, director of the Sidewalk School.

Construction of a farm shelter costs $83,000 and will be covered by donors.

Muse says it will be ready within three months.
