Tyler Perry reveals past suicide attempts
Media mogul Tyler Perry is one of many celebrities sharing their reactions to the tragic passing of Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss. On Wednesday, the 53-year-old tycoon took to Instagram more than just to reflect on Boss’s life. But also to share her past struggles with mental health.
Hey everybody. I, like the rest of the world, am shocked by the death of Stephen Boss — tWitch. And that drives me to go on, to talk to any of you who are going through tough, struggling times – I’ve only met him a couple of times and he’s always full of life and seems to is a light…
Perry’s past suicide attempts
Perry went on to say that Boss’s passing made him think about a time in his life when he “tried to commit suicide”.
“A few times,” Perry added.
Because it’s too dark. I don’t think it will get any better. I have endured so much pain, so much abuse – sexual abuse. It was so hard to get over, that I thought the only way to make this better, to make this pain go away, was to end my life. If any of those attempts happen, I’ll miss out on the best part of my life.
Perry wants anyone struggling with suicidal thoughts to reach out for help
Perry goes on to advise people suffering from similar debilitating thoughts to turn to someone for help.
What I realize now, looking back at all those dark times, is that sometimes, pain is a redemption. I know it’s confusing – not always, sometimes, pain is a redemption. It was the only way I had to learn to look at it to get over it. What I mean is – all that pain, all that hell, all that struggle – if I give up, if I stop, I won’t see a better part of my life. So I bought into something. I paid for something.
Perry goes on to explain that his thought process may not make sense to many people. But that’s how he has to rationalize his circumstances to overcome them.
My life now I am the happiest person I have ever had. Life is full of joy and love. Things I never thought I would get. And I’m telling you, if you’re a suicidal person, ending your life and you’ve been through a lot of hell, please, please, think about the other side maybe. what. It could be great. And you’ll miss the best part of it walking through the dark. Don’t let the darkness stop you from reaching this place of incredible light.
Perry ended his message by saying he was “so happy” that his suicide attempt had failed. He then shared the phone number of the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
“RIP tWitch,” Perry said before leaving the screen.
Perry’s Life Lessons & How He Could Pass Them on
Perry’s life lessons are certainly worth heeding. And now he has a new family member to pass them on. According to People, Perry is godfather to Lilibet Diana, daughter of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
On the Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, Perry described the moment his parents approached him with an offer.
I went, ‘Okay, what’s going on?’ They said, ‘Well, we want you to be Lili’s godfather.’ I go, ‘Oh.’ It took me a minute to understand that. And I thought, ‘I’m so honored. I would absolutely be honored.’
Tyler Perry provided Prince Harry and Meghan with his home and safety for “several months” as they moved to the US. He had never met them before. He is now godfather to their daughter, Lilibet: “It took me a minute to understand that. I thought, ‘I would be honored'” pic.twitter.com/xdWC9HXzgZ
