New orders for key U.S.-made capital items elevated solidly in August, holding enterprise spending on gear on monitor for one more quarter of sturdy progress.
The Commerce Division mentioned on Monday orders for non-defense capital items excluding plane, a carefully watched proxy for enterprise spending plans, rose 0.5% final month. These so-called core capital items orders gained 0.3% in July.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast core capital items orders rising 0.4%.
