UK aviation regulator approves first satellite launch from UK soil

The UK’s aviation regulator has given Virgin Orbit the green light to send its first satellite into orbit from UK soil, paving the way for a launch from Spaceport Cornwall in Newquay.

The Civil Aviation Authority on Wednesday said it had granted the final license to Virgin Orbit after receiving the consent of transport minister Mark Harper.

The approvals were granted after Virgin Orbit demonstrated to the UK CAA that it had “taken all reasonable steps to keep the safety risks arising from launch operations as low as possible”. .
