UK family social site Maxwell voiced confidence in the girl’s innocence
LONDON – Ghislaine Maxwell’s family members say they still believe she is innocent after a New York jury found her guilty of luring underage girls into sexual abuse by a human millionaire. American Jeffrey Epstein.
In a statement released late Wednesday, Maxwell’s family said they would support the British social media site’s efforts to appeal her conviction.
“We firmly believe in our sister’s innocence. We are very disappointed with the verdict,” the statement read. “We have begun an appeal tonight, and we believe she will eventually be vindicated.”
The jury’s verdict limited to a month-long trial with deplorable accounts of the sexual exploitation of 14-year-old girls.
Four women testified that they were abused as minors in the 1990s and early 2000s at Epstein’s home in Florida, New York and New Mexico.
The judges deliberated for five full days before concluding that Maxwell was guilty of five of the six counts.
Each crime carries a maximum prison sentence of 5 to 40 years.
