Ukraine war: Released Britons feel ‘moral obligation to help’
Five Britons have returned to their families in the UK as part of a prisoner exchange between Russia and Ukraine after being captured by Russian-backed forces in Ukraine.
Russian-American journalist Simon Ostrovsky has told the BBC what motivated Aiden Aslin, one of five released Britons, to fight Ukrainian forces. Aslin, 28, was sentenced to death after he was arrested in Mariupol.
He said Aslin, whom he met in Ukraine in 2019, felt the need to do something about Russia’s aggression and believed the West needed to strengthen its commitment to Ukraine.
