Ukrainian church in Humboldt Park burned; man charged

A man is charged following a burglary at a Ukrainian church in Humboldt Park early Saturday morning.

Torribio Mora, 20, has been identified as the man who broke into the church. He was charged with one count of burglary, one count of property damage and one misdemeanor count of trespassing on real property.

Around 1:08 a.m., officers were met by a custodian who told them the church had been robbed.

Police found a broken window on the side of the Holy Protection Parish of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church located at 900 N. Washtenaw, where entry and exit points were made. Surveillance video caught Mora taking some unidentified items from the church.

Mora was still at the scene at the time he was taken into custody less than an hour after the theft.
