Congratulations to North Carolina Tar Heels for qualifying for the 2023 NCAA Tournament.
We kid. Sort.
The season doesn’t start until November 7, but Tar Heels got a huge boost when Ranked No. 1 in an Associated Press pre-season poll. That’s because every team is #1 in the pre-season poll made the tournament.
North Carolina doesn’t look like a good bet to be the first to miss the dance. The Heels back to the core took them to a 29-10 record and appeared in the national championship game in coach Hubert Davis’s first year.
They are led by 6-foot-10, 240-pound Armando Bacot, a huge presence in the team’s record last season. He’s hoping to build a 2021-22 average of 16.3 points and 13.1 rebounds. Also returning are junior bodyguards Caleb Love and RJ Davis, the second and fourth highest scorers on the team last season.
“The only difference between last year and this year is outside noise,” Davis told Daily Tar Heel.
The crown given to the Tar Gods as AP’s No. 1 team as the season draws to a close will only make the noise louder.
By the way, Selection Sunday for the tournament is March 12, 2023. If North Carolina wasn’t one of the selected schools, that would be absolute madness.
