WWE NXT New Year’s Evil had a few big matches scheduled for the second show of the year. Bron Breakker is set to defend his NXT championship against Grayson Waller in one of the show’s biggest matches.
Some more contenders for the brand’s top titles were crowned all night long. Wes Lee found his next opponent for the NXT North American Championship, while a returning team became the next challenger for New Day’s titles.
A Battle Royal is also set to determine Roxanne Perez’s opponents for Days of Revenge. Overall, it turned out to be a productive night for the brand.
Take a look at five things WWE NXT New Year’s Evil has to offer this year.
#5. Dijak Becomes Wes Lee’s Next Opponent For The North American NXT Championship
Dijak and Tony D’Angelo competed in the #1 WWE NXT North American Championship match. Wes Lee joined the commentary group when the two men grew up in the ring.
Dijak took control early and also gave some punishment to Channing “Stacks” Lorenzo. The latter attempted to protect D’Angelo throughout the match and the focus shifted from the match to their relationship as a family.
Tony hits a near miss before Dijak explodes with Superkick and Chokeslam. Stacks tried to help D’Angelo, but The Don told him to stay out and do his own thing.
The distraction allowed Dijak to hit the Cyclone Kill and win to become Lee’s next opponent. The match went smoothly and Dijak got the attention he needed. It’s time for WWE to give him the recognition he deserves and give him the North American championship.
#4. Jinder Mahal joins Indus Sher to surprise The Creed Brothers
faith brothers appeared in the match against Indus Sher, but Sanga was absent without Veer. It looks like fans will have a handicap match between the two at WWE NXT New Year’s Evil before a superstar in the main lineup makes a surprise appearance.
Jinder Mahal appears to attack Creeds and bring Julius into the turret before taking him down along with Khallas. Meanwhile, Sanga takes Brutus outside and takes him up the steel steps.
Later in the night, Mahal had a singles match against Julius Creed. Babyface was soon in control before Jinder hit him with a Spinebuster. Julius didn’t stay long and had a couple of near falls.
Sanga distracts Julius, allowing Jinder to avoid being thrown off the top rope. The distraction gave Mahal a big kick, followed by Khallas to win.
The former WWE champion has been working aimlessly on the main roster for years now. Switching to the NXT roster could be a good move for Jinder, especially if Veer is inactive for a while. He works perfectly as a heel.
#3. Gallus returns to perform Pretty Deadly on WWE NXT
Pretty deadly managed to secure a spot at this week’s WWE NXT Team Championships this week. They competed in a bout against three teams this week.
The first team turned out to be a few advanced talents who couldn’t do much against the former champions. After a few doubles, Pretty Deadly won with Spilled Milk.
Edris Enofe and Malik Blade appear as the second team to face Pretty Deadly. The two men fought against Elton Prince and Kit Wilson and almost won with a Spinebuster.
Blade hits another Frog Splash before a scuffle breaks out between the two. Prince rolled his opponent and won from an inner cradle.
gallbladder returned to WWE NXT and surprised the heel team. Mark Coffey worked hard on Pretty Deadly before Wolfgang joined in for control. The two men toyed with Wilson and Prince before delivering their finishing blow to a dominant victory.
Gallus’ return will strengthen the NXT tag team division. Phe is one of the best tagging groups in the company. New Day will likely have a hard time retaining their title against Coffey and his men at Vengeance Day.
#2. Grayson Waller and Bron Breakker could not bring their match to a decisive end
Grayon Waller is challenged football player for the WWE NXT Championship. Heel attempted to run away from the early game, but he faced a massive bump and a moonsault on his return.
The Australian superstar is back and is in a confusing situation, but Bron is too strong for him. The two superstars exchanged moves before the champion was put on the rotation. One of the locks broke and officials had to fix it.
Waller continued his attack after the action started again and dodged a Spear before delivering a massive knee strike. He made an escape from the ropes, but the returning needles broke, throwing Waller outside.
The challenger was disqualified because he was unable to return to the ring, and Breakker retained his title. Late at night, Shawn Michaels announced that the two superstars would meet again for the title at Vengeance Day, this time inside the steel cage.
The match itself went well, and WWE found another way to end it while protecting both superstars. It will keep Breakker busy for a while as he has outdone many opponents over the past four months.
#first. Gigi Dolin and Jacy Jayne to compete for Roxanne Perez’s NXT Women’s Championship
The entire women’s team had their eyes on the NXT Women’s Championship as the 20-female Battle Royal took place in the main event. Cora Ngoc out of the ring before Tatum Paxley was eliminated.
The ring quickly emptied when Lash Legend eliminated Amari Miller. Sol Ruca saved himself from disqualification and returned to the ring by going by hand.
Jade returned to the ring before being kicked out almost immediately. Fans were surprised when Wendy Choo, Nikkita Lyons and Zoey Stark were also eliminated from the competition.
Alba Fyre, Lyra Valkyria, Jacy Jayne and Gigi Dolin are the last four in the ring. Valkyria eliminated Fyre before Cora Jade returned to eliminate her.
Jayne and Dolin were the last two in the ring and battled each other to determine who would take on Perez. They fought outside the parking lot and at the same time fell, confusing the referees. In the end, they were both announced as the winners of the match.
The match went well as it had some interesting points. It also led to the explosion of some new competitors. However, the outcome could have been much better as both women could jump off the ring at the same time to show that it was all in their plan.
The match between Perez and Toxic attraction will be good because the champion will be facing two heels that have been working together for several months. A win will give Perez a big boost.
