US auto dealers report mixed results for January
So far, the few remaining automakers still reporting monthly US sales are delivering mixed results for January, with supply chain issues continuing to weigh on the process. post-pandemic recovery of the industry.
Hyundai slipped a month into January with a 10 percent gain from a year ago and its highest-ever January sales, but the company’s ongoing supply struggles became more apparent as people January numbers are given compared to December. Volumes fell 7% to 47,872 units from a month ago, but Hyundai announced that its January numbers were not helped by fleet sales; 100% of the units delivered are retail.
Kia’s Inventory constraints also held it back. Its sales were down more than 5% from January of last year and more than 12% from December.
Similar story at Mazdawhere only Mazda 3 had a better January than 2020. The small carmaker ended the month down nearly 17% in volume compared to January of last year.
Similarly, Subaru reported sales of 44,158 vehicles in the US for January 2022, down 4.8% from January 2021. Subaru cited semiconductor shortages and supply chain problems.
