The Pokémon Company has experienced another cracked year in 2021 with plenty of new releases and success stories to write home about, including the latest little truth about real sales.
Mat Piscatella of NPD Group revealed that by 2021, the dollar sales of Pokémon franchise physical software in the United States will reach their highest total annual revenue since 2000. The success is due to last year’s launch of the Pokémon franchise. Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and New Pokémon Snap, with continued sales of Pokémon Sword and Shield are also in business.
Piscatella noted that Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are actually the Switch’s best-selling products of 2021 in the US physical market, despite only launching in November.
For comparison, in 2000, Pokémon fans were treated to Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon Puzzle Challenge, and Gold and Silver Pokémon on Game Boy Color, Pokémon Stadium, Pokémon Puzzle League, and Hey you, Pikachu! on Nintendo 64 and just witnessed the launch of Yellow Pokémon (October 1999). There will be something quite special to top that year.
Not a bad 2021 for Pokémon, though. And don’t forget, Pokémon Legend: Arceus now just a few days ago!
