The 2022 Olympic Games are being held in Beijing, China, and along with the international competition, traditional events are increasingly known and loved by fans; hockey, foosball, and figure skating, to name a few.

However, this year’s game will introduce to the world seven brand new events.

Here are them, along with some details about each:

Women’s Monobobs

As the name suggests, the event features a single female participant tasked with quickly navigating a sled down a windy and icy trail with just her alone.

This event joins the pre-existing traditional bobsled events: four men, two men and two women. As such, the Beijing Games marked the first time that a female sledding athlete had two chances to win a medal, even for a man.

In the women’s monobob event, each competitor’s sleds are identical, eliminating any potential design advantage.

Men’s and women’s large aerial skiing (two separate events)

For the true daredevils out there, the freeskiers will hit the air in Beijing in an event dedicated to wowing the crowd – and the judges – with the most creative, challenging, lying tricks. your heart. In the men’s and women’s events, Olympic competitors launch themselves off the ramp, aiming to perform a unique, impressive trick on each run before landing clean.

Skiers start running on the 50-meter top and will be judged on five factors:

  • difficulty
  • executive
  • amplitude
  • landing
  • Progress

In the Olympic final, the competitors will make three runs, with their total points coming from the two best runs.

The maximum score for each run is 100 points.

Mixed team relay in short track speed skating

Think of a lightning-fast relay race. Now put it on the rock. This is basically what this new speed racing event is like, as teams of four (two men and two women) race each other over a 2,000 meter (18 laps) track.

The Olympics had men’s (5,000 m) and women’s (3,000 m) speed relay races; However, this year’s Olympics will be the first time an event for both men and women will be held.

The competition begins with each female skater racing for two and a half laps, followed by each male skater completing the same distance. That brings us to 10 laps. The women’s skaters from the team went on, two laps each. We’re now in 14th place. In the end, the men’s skaters from each team sprinted for two laps each, bringing the total to 18 laps.

The first team to the finish line wins, with medal placement expected to be decided by a fraction of a second.

Mixed team ski jump

It started with men’s ski jump, back in 1988.

Female diving athletes joined the fun 20 years later at the 2018 Olympic Games.

Now, a third medal chance has been added to the sport, as teams of four – two men, two women – compete in the 98-meter take-off ski jump.

The event takes place in a women’s-male-female-male format, with athletes individually judged based on factors including style and distance. Each skier’s score is added together to create the team’s total. Look. Outside. Below.

Mixed Cross Ski Team

In the modern-day version of “last to the bottom is a rotten egg”, the event features teams of two, one woman, one man, racing from the starting gate at the top of the mountain, to the finish line at the top of the mountain. below.

It’s pure speed, with various obstacles and aptitude tests – falling, turning, jumping – scattered throughout the course.

The man starts, and only when he reaches the bottom can the starting gate reopen, allowing his female teammate to begin the descent. The team with the fastest woman to the finish line wins and is therefore definitely NOT a rotten egg.

Mixed team freestyle skiing

Never before has freestyle skiing been a team event. All that changes this year in Beijing, when teams of three forces combine to reach new heights and land on the medal podium.

Athletes take the leap and soar into the sky, where they’ll engage in a series of twists and turns, flips and turns, before finally, and hopefully, landing at the bottom of a slope.

Each three-man team must have at least one male and one female, and the combined scores of the skiers will create the team’s total score.
