VFACTS January: Ford Ranger leads, strongest in the market since 2018

Australia’s new car market continues to show signs of recovery after a couple of years of supply chain turmoil, with deliveries up 11.9% year on year (YoY).

The data showed 84,873 deliveries in January, which is the best result for the first month of the year since 2018. It also continued the consecutive month-on-year growth streak that lasted until July last year.

“This data… shows that the industry is continuing to recover from years of supply chain disruptions and delays,” said Tony Weber, executive director of the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industry.

Electric, hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicle sales accounted for 12% (10,426) of sales, with BEVs accounting for about half of these and the Tesla Model 3 topped the overall passenger car rankings.

Sales increased across all regions, all types of buyers increased and, as has become a familiar pattern, sales of SUVs and ute/vans account for three-quarters of the market.

In addition, the VFACTS data compiled by FCAI updated some price parameters of the segments to reflect inflationary pressures. For example, the Light Vehicle market is now divided into larger or lower price segments and $30,000, instead of $25,000.
